Meet our May '25 Featured Family: The George Family
1. Tell us more about your family.
Our names are Elvis and Anila George. We have been married for over 20 years and have 3 wonderful children. We live in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.
2. Tell us more about your heart for adoption.
Our story of adoption started in the early years of our marriage. We both independently had a heart for adoption before we both even knew of each other's desire to adopt. We found it to be such joy to learn that both of us had a heart to adopt, especially realizing this before having biological children. We decided to pray over it. During these years, God blessed us with a son and two daughters. As we traveled down the path God had for us and our children in life, our family felt incomplete still. The flame in our hearts to adopt was still burning strong. We also knew we wanted to adopt from India. However, it took us several years still before we actually took action. We believe that the years we waited were ordained by God as this time allowed us to prepare our hearts and prepare our children's hearts to add another child to our family through adoption. We engaged with International Adoption Network (IAN) in December of 2022. We started the journey with IAN thinking that we would be eligible to adopt a baby. However, we quickly learned that due to our combined ages we were eligible only to adopt an older child. Secondly, we were only eligible to adopt a child with special needs.
3. Tell us more about your adoption journey so far.
We are choosing to adopt from India because we are a family of Indian descent. We feel that it would be easier for the child and us to be able to have a common culture and heritage as we embark on this journey. The beginning of 2025 brought so many blessings. Immediately after the New Year holiday, we received notification that we were approved for an international adoption and the very next day we received our first referral! We received some basic details and a tiny picture of a sweet little 5 year old boy named Saban. He does have a special need, however, with wisdom and direction only God can provide, we just knew we would be able to help this child. We accepted the referral and have been in the process of working with the Indian government to provide all the necessary documents to move forward. Currently we are waiting on the formal court order of adoption from India, that we anticipate to have it by June/July.
4. Tell us more about the child you are adopting.
