Meet our July '25 Featured Family: The Benford Family
1. Tell us more about your family.
Casey and I met in college on a disaster relief trip. We were friends for a few years before we started dating. Now, we have been married 8 years and have a dog, a cat, and 10 chickens. We live in Lexington, SC, and we are both nurses. We are both big on family!
2. Tell us more about your heart for adoption.
We have always liked the idea of adopting children in addition to having biological children. When the desire to expand our family was met with infertility, we came to realize that adopting children has always been God's "Plan A" for us. We have quickly realized we are more outspoken and transparent in our walk with Christ in this journey of parenthood than we would have without this trial. We fully believe our purpose here on earth is to further His Kingdom, and this is the way we get to do so.
3. Tell us more about your adoption journey so far.
From what we have learned, healthy groups of siblings are best sought after in the country of Colombia. We desire to have multiple children, so it made sense to us to pursue a sibling group to adopt. We want to give them the ability to stay together. We anticipate 2-3 years before bringing any children home. We know His timing is perfect!
4. Tell us more about the child you are adopting.
We aren't matched with any children yet, but we have begun to work on learning Spanish to help the transition when our children come home. We think the likelihood of having one of our children come into our home closer to age 10 is high, and we want to do everything we can to help them be more comfortable in the big change of being adopted into a new family in a new country.
Prayer Request:
We pray for our children to be safe and have a peace that lets them know we are coming for them. We pray for comfort in times of stress in the process, and diligence in paperwork and approvals.
This journey into parenthood is different than I imagined it would. For anyone going through infertility, and who is considering adoption, it can be an uncomfortable road at times. But if this journey is for you, as it is for us, we can already tell you it has its own joyous and exciting moments. For anyone who might need to talk about this, we are here!
We will be donating $1 from every bag of coffee sold this month to the Benford's Connected Hearts Ministry fund and we'd love for YOU to partner with this family to adopt their precious children! You can donate directly to them through their Connected Hearts Ministry link, where 100% of the donation will be used for adoption-related expenses: https://give.connectedheartsministry.org/campaign/benford-family-adoption-fund/c689018
